Ganesh

This popular Hindu deity is known as god of knowledge and the remover of obstacles. Ganesh is the son of Shiva. The story goes that the goddess Parvati instructed her son Ganesh to guard her door ash she bathed. When Lord Shiva came to see Parvati, Ganesh (unaware Shiva was his father) would not allow him in. Shiva became so enraged that he cut off Ganesh's head. When Parvati came to know of this she was deeply distressed, so Shiva offered to replace his head with that of the next living being that came along, this happened to be an elephant.
